How is Yoga Therapy Applied?
Yoga Therapy looks at the whole person rather than just the symptom or the condition. It is a holistic approach by using the principles of Yoga teachings and practices in a therapeutic context. It offers all people, including those experiencing a wide range of ailments or disabilities, guidance and personal tools that they can use to enhance their life.
What are the goals of Yoga Therapy?
These include eliminating, reducing, or managing symptoms that cause suffering; improve functioning; helping to prevent the occurrence or re-occurrence of underlying causes of illness; and moving toward improved health and well being. Yoga therapy can also help to change the relationship and identification with a health condition.
What Happens in a Yoga Therapy Session?
Yoga Therapy sessions are a one on one consultation conducted in confidentiality. A comprehensive health assessment is completed, along with a discussion about how you would like Yoga Therapy to assist you with your health needs. Then working together, a home practice is designed to align with your lifestyle, health goals and needs discussed. Once your home program commences, telephone support is provided. Initially there are usually 2 sessions required and further ongoing sessions depending on your condition and your choice to continue.
To gain the expected health benefits and to see results it is recommended that you follow your home program at least 3 times or more per week.
How does a Yoga Therapy Home Based Program work?
You will receive your own personalized Yoga Therapy Home Practice Program enabling you to self-manage your health and ultimately improving your quality of life.
The design of the home based program can include gentle exercises by performing simplified yoga postures which can be modified to chair based, synchronized with the breath, mindfulness practices, and relaxation session.
The program is supported by telephone follow up reviews and mentoring. Based on your feedback, changes can be made to the original program. Ongoing one on one reviews can be arranged.
If you choose, your GP can included in your Yoga Therapy Journey.
